- John Adams John Adams ( 1735
1826). Adams
was a politician and Founding Father of the United States
of America who served both as that nation's first Vice President
(17891797), and as its second President (17971801).
He was defeated for re-election in the "Revolution of 1800"
by Thomas Jefferson. Adams was a sponsor of the American Revolution
in Massachusetts, and a diplomat in the 1770s. He was a driving
force for independence in 1776; in fact, the "Colossus of
Independence," in Jefferson's understanding. As a statesman
and author Adams helped define a set of core republican ideals
that became the core of America's political value system: the
rejection of hereditary monarchy in favor of rule by the people,
hatred of corruption, and devotion to civic duty.

- Beautiful Free Frank all in
the hand of John Adams, Letter sent from Quincy Mass to Elbridge
Gerry, Vice President of U.S. in Cambridge. The frank itself
is in pristine condition with folds as shown. The frank is on
a full address leaf that was folded into an envelope and sealed.
There are remnants of the wax seal persisting and there is some
paper loss at the margin not affecting the frank or the dark,
bold signature as J. Adams.
