Uncommon Document Signed as President, being a four language ship's papers for the the ship "Logan" the captain of which was Benjamin May.These papers were issued for a trip to the Pacific Ocean and for carrying provisions, stores and materials for whaling.The American whaling industry flourished after the signing of the Treaty of Ghent that ended the War of 1812. As these papers indicate the activities of the American whalers was extensive and extended to the Pacific Ocean. New Bedford was reaching its peak as a whaling port in the mid-1800's and at one time had over 30 whaling ships that called New Bedford home.This document is housed in an archival frame with overall dimensions of appx. 39 in. x 26 in. The document's overall dimensions are appx. 14 in x 20 in and the document is signed by President Andrew Jackson on May 20, 1834. The document is also signed by Secretary of State Louis McLane. The document is in superb condition and the wafer seals are intact. All of the signatures are bold.
