Bound for Tokyo, Lieutenant Colonel Jimmy Doolittle and the other Raiders launched their B-25 Mitchells from the heaving deck of the carrier USS Hornet on the morning of 18 April, 1942. Leading a sixteen-bomber force on their long distance one - way (one could substitute suicide for one-way) mission, the Doolittle Raiders completed the first strike at the heart of Imperial Japan since the infamous attack on Pearl Harbor four months earlier. Together, they completed one of the most audacious air raids in aviation history. When FDR was asked where the flight originated he replied "Shaingra la" with an all-knowing look on his face. This offering is a double matted display of sixteen 3 in x 5 in white cards signed by Doolittle Raiders including one signed by Doolittle. The autographs are combined with multiple diffrerent photographic images from the Hornet prior to take off.The overall size of the matted piece is 32 in x 40 in .The following signed the cards: General Jimmy Doolittle, Richard Cole, Jacob DeSchazer, David Tatcher, Ed Horton, Ed Saylor,Charles Ozuk, Davy Jones, Royden Stork, Robert Hite, Bill Bower, Fred Kappeler,Tom Griffith, Charles Nielsen, Robert Hite, William Birch.
