One of the most famous love triangles in American History
SOLD
This is a historical collection of autographs from three members of one of the most famous love triangles in American history. More than one American president since FDR (all Democrats) have been involved in extramarital 'affairs of the heart' but FDR was one of the first presidents in modern times to have been openly unfaithful to his wife. This behavior was even more striking considering the morality of the time. In fairness to FDR, his wife Eleanor said no more marital bliss after the birth of their 6th child and they never shared a bedroom again. Apparently FDR turned first to Lucy Mercer, his wife's social secretary, and then to 'Missy" LeHand who had adjoining bedrooms to FDR in the White House. According to his son Elliott, FDR rewrote his will to leave half of his estate for "Missy", effectively cutting his children out. But, LeHand died of a stroke in 1944 and FDR went back to Lucy Mercer who was an attractive widow by then. She was in Warm Springs when FDR died but vanished before the press and Eleanor arrived.
