Gerald Rudolph Ford, Jr. (1913) was the 40th (19731974) Vice President and the 38th (19741977) President of the United States. Born Leslie Lynch King, Jr. in Omaha, Nebraska, his parents divorced when he was very young. His mother moved to Michigan and remarried and Ford was given the name of his step-father, Gerald R. Ford, Sr., who informally adopted him. Ford became President after Richard Nixon resigned over the Watergate affair. In the aftermath of that resignation Ford pardoned Nixon to, as he put it," bring our long national nightmare to an end." This book details those difficult times, why he pardoned Nixon and why Nelson Rockefeller rather than George H. W. Bush was appointed to Vice President to succeed himself. Ford wanted to be free to choose his running mate in the next election and Rockefeller pledged not to stay on the ticket. A very observant reader would note that a photograph of ford in the Oval Office shows him sitting and writing with his left hand. Ford was right handed standing and left handed sitting. The book is a First Edition and it has a dust jacket. The book is in excellent condition. It is signed an d inscribed to a former pilot assigned to the White House as follows: To Major Bill Shaw, with best Wishes Gerald R. Ford. Price: $295.00 |
