written letter on French's New York City Letterhead which reads--
Dear Mr. Dupuy--I enclose the usual check for December and iI I acknowledge
your letter and the poem that accompanied it. I had no idea that you
were a poet and I offer my congratulations. I am sorry for the continued
anxiety but we hope to hear very soon that the miracle has been performed
and that all is well.--Daniel C. French.

Daniel Chester
French (1850-1931). Famous American sculptor and friend of
Ralph Waldo Emerson. A New Englander, French studied at MIT and in
Europe and one of his first works that became famous was hisrendering
of The Minute Man. By the end of his career many of his works were
among the permanebnt collections of America's leading museums such
as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City
but his work is also held in collections of many public and educational
institutions..

in fine condition and paper shows normal aging and toning.Dimensions
of document appx. 8 in x 5 in.
Of course the work that cemented his place in history was his sculpture
of a seated Abraham Lincoln at the Lincoln Memorial in Washingron,
D.C.
