Yuri
Gagarin (1934-1968). Russian Cosmonaut
and n April 12, 1961, became the first human to travel into space
(see Vostok 1). Cosmonaut Gagarin flew into space on April 12,
1961 at a speed of 17,000 mph lasting one hour and forty-eight
minutes in his Vostok space craft. This hero of the Soviet Union
was killed tragically in a training mission at 34 years of age.
His autograph material is highly sought after.

- Autograph Note Signed by Gagarin, one page, on a 3.5 in. by 5.5 in. sheet (the verso
of a daily calendar), dated April 18, 1963, and co-signed by
Cosmonauts Pavel Popovich (b. 1930, Fourth Cosmonaut in
space) Andrian Nikolayev (19292004, 3rd cosmonaut
in space), and Gherman Titov (1935-2000, 2nd cosmonaut
in space, and the youngest).

- The note, in Cyrillic, reads: "Dear
Sasha, I wish good health. Gagarin 18.04.63" Beneath
Gagarin's script the other thre have signed: "P Popovich"
"A Nikolayev" "Titov".
