George Bush (b. 1924). 41st President of the Untied States (1989-1993).
Very Good Autograph Letter Signed, dated November 15,
1995, one page, oblong octavo on official "George Bush"
heavy card stock. To the Executive Vice-President of the Jewish
Federation of Greater Houston, Dougas Kleiner, responding to
a letter of thanks by Kleiner to Bush thanking him for attending
the funeral of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. Reads in
part: "I was so glad that I went to P.M. Rabin's funeral.
Sad, so very sad it all is. Thanks for your thoughtful note.
Sincerely George Bush."
- A very poignant letter of reflection after
President Bush's return from the funeral of Yitzhak Rabin (1922-1995).
The famed Israeli politician, military general, and Nobel Laureate,
was assassinated by a radical right wing activist after attending
a peace rally in Tel Aviv's Kings of Israel Square (which is
now the Yitzhak Rabin Square) on November 4, 1995. The shooting
stemmed from Rabin's role in the creation of the Oslo Accords,
which greatly polarized his image in Israeli society; some seeing
him as a hero for advancing the cause of peace and some seeing
him as a traitor for giving away land they saw as rightfully
belonging to Israel. The letter from the elder Bush reflects
the tragedy of Rabin and the ongoing struggle for peace in the
Middle East. ALS's signed in full by the elder Bush are quite
uncommon, especially with such content.
-
- Accompanied with the original envelope
of transmission which bears a printed free-frank signature on
upper right, and a copy of the original letter from Kleiner.
In very fine conditon.
