Hermann Wilhelm Göring (or Goering)-(1893– 1946) was a German politician, military leader, and a leading member of the Nazi Party. Among his many offices, he was Hitler's designated successor and commander of the Luftwaffe (German Air Force). He was a veteran of the First World War as an ace fighter pilot, and a recipient of the coveted Pour le Mérite ("The Blue Max"). He was the last commander of Jagdgeschwader 1, the air squadron of Manfred von Richthofen, "The Red Baron".

Goering was was appointed to the rank of Reichsmarschall by Hitler in 1940 which along with his other offices made him second only to Hitler in the Nazi heirarchary. He was designated to be in charge of the Nazi Four Year Plan to revitalize or re-industrialize Nazi Germany in prepration for war. Goering had a special relationship to Krupp in that he intervened to keep the crazies in the Nazi Party from killing the workers Krupp Arms Company needed so the company would be able to keep manufacturing war material for Hitler.

This sword is massive and is approximately 55 inches long and weighs 15 pounds.It is not adorned by a swastika nor any other Nazi indicia. The blade's Turkish Damascus pattern, bold and beautiful, has sixty plus years of accrued patina. The blade's only adornment is a simple, yet elegant, presentation overlay, of which each letter is made of hand forged Damascus steel all set within a hollow ground center line (aka-the "blood grove" to those who are knowledgeable in the mastery of Damascus steel). At most distal end of this inlay is the logo of the Krupp Company (three intersecting circles) as demonstrated.

This format of Turkish Damascus forging in the sword is the rarest and hardest pattern of Damascus steel to make. The high quality represented in this sword has never been surpassed since the Third Reich era. The skill, knowledge and equipment required to replicate this massive sword means without a question that this sword is authentic and was made by Krupp in the time of Nazi Germany. In support of this contention note the following two facts: first, we have correspondence from Krupp stating that a sword identical to this one was presented to Reichsmarschall Herman Goering ; and ,second, three experts in German edged weapons, two of whom were metallurgists, have deemed this sword was from the NAZI ERA AND THAT IT IS CORRECT IN EVERY DETAIL AND THEREFORE AUTHENTIC.

The inlay in the blood groove reads: "To the Smith Reichsmarschall Goring of the Four Year Plan." The inlay also shows the patented Krupp logo as demonstrated in the above photo.

FINALLY, IN ORDER TO MANUFACTURE A DAMASCUS BLADE OF THIS SIZE AND WEIGHT AND WITH THE TYPE OF INLAY THAT THIS SWORD EXHIBITS WOULD NOT ONLY HAVE REQUIRED THE SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE OF A 'TRUE MASTER CRAFTSMAN' BUT IT WOULD HAVE REQUIRED EQUIPMENT AND ENGINEERING EXPERTISE THAT COULD ONLY HAVE BEEN AVAILABLE AT AN INDUSTRIAL GIANT LIKE KRUPP.

IN SUMMARY, THERE IS A HISTORICAL RECORD OF A SWORD EXACTLY LIKE THIS HAVING BEEN MADE FOR REICHSMARSCHALL GOERING (LETTER FROM KRUPP), IT COULD NOT HAVE BEEN REPRODUCED POST WAR, ITS AUTHENTICITY HAS BEEN AGREEDED UPON BY SEVERAL EXPERTS INCLUDING TWO METALLURGISTS AND OUR PROVENANCE (THAT WILL BE PROVIDED TO THE BUYER) HELPS TO PROVE THE AUTHENTICITY OF THIS SWORD. IT IS A REMARKABLE SURVIVING ARTIFACT OF THE NAZI ERA.
