Friedrich August Hayek ( 1899 - 1992). Hayek was an economist and social scientist of the Austrian School who taught at the well-known London School of Economics, and was noted for his defense of liberal democracy and free-market capitalism against a rising tide of socialist and collectivist thought in the mid-20th century. He sounded one of the earliest warnings that the rising tide of collectivism was incompatible with the operation and functioning of democratic institutions. How true a prophesy. He is considered one of the fathers of 'Austrian Economics.' He was an early and vigorous defender of preserving individual liberty and free market capitalism. This book was fiirst published in 1944 and it was reprinted 17 times in the first year.It took the Nobel Prize committee whose home is a hotbed of collectivism thirty years to award one of the seminal thinkers in the field of economics his prize He also made important contributions to the fields of jurisprudence and cognitive science. Hayek shared the 1974 Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel with ideological rival Gunnar Myrdal.Guess who is still remembered and whose stature has grown with the years?Of course, Hayek. In a recent book titled Greatness ***bySteven F.Hayward, there are several citations referencing how profoundly The Road to Serfdom influenced the thinking of both Ronald Reagan's and Winston Churchill's thinking about the dangers of socialism (communism) and how central government planning would ruin a country and an economy.

This book is in excellent condition. It has an unclipped intact dust jacket. It is a much later printing of the classic and was published by The University of Chicago Press. It is signed To (name) with best wishes F.A. Hayek.I found one other signed copy of this book for sale in the world, it too a later printing priced at ($3700) Price:$OLD
