Winslow Homer (1836-1910). American Landscape and Marine Genre Painter. Was one of the great illustrators during the Civil War, sending battlefield sketches and producing lithographs for Harpoer's Weekly. One of the foremost painters of the nineteenth century.

Good Art-Related Autograph Letter Signed, one page, Scarboro, Maine, October 3, 1901, one page, small quarto, to a Mr. James B. Townsend. Reads: "My watercolors at the Pan American are already engaged and I have nothing now under my control. Yours Respecfully, Winslow Homer".
Watercolor artist Winslow Homer created more than 40 watercolor works in 1899 and 1900 in Bermuda and Nassau. He was very satisfied with them and selected 21 pieces for display at the Pan-American Exposition, which was held in Buffalo, NY, from May 1 to November 2, 1901. The group of paintings were inclusively titled "Scenes from the Bahamas and Bermudas" without individual titles. Many of the pieces now are in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Minor soiling and wrinkling, age toning, with errant ink mark at bottom of letter near the signature, overall, scan does not do the piece justice. It is in very good condition. Letters from Homer mentioning his work are very rare and seldom available.
