Jacqueline Kennedy (1929-1994). TLS, 1p, May 7, on personal letterhead stationery to president of Continental Airlines thanking him for his generous support of the Kennedy Library.The letter reads in part----"Stephen Smith has just informed me of you extremely generous gift and pledge to the library. President Kennedy had hoped that one day the library could be built and he planned to devote much of his time to such a project. Now we must do that for him and I assure you that it will be the finest presidential library ever.---" Signed Jaquiline Kennedy with a postscript in her hand that reads "how wonderful for you to work hard for the library now. I shall ever express my appreciation." A poignant reminder of the tragic loss suffered by the country and the Kennedy family as a result of the assassination of JFK. The library did indeed get built and it is certainly one of the finest presidential libraries. Thus, Jackie fulfilled her pledge to the donor.jackie as everyone knows was a very private person and it is unusual to find letters by her with such an effusive and personal postscript in her hand.The letter is in excellent condition.
