JOHN HANCOCK (1737-1793). Leader in the American Revolution, President of the Second Continental Image of John Hancock antique engravingCongress(May 24, 1775 – October 31, 1777), and he was First Signer of the Declaration of Independence.According to legend he said he wanted his signature on the Declaration to be so large and so bold that King George would have no difficulty reading it.

This offering is a document signed, DS, being a Warrant. This document is the most perfectly preserved John Hancock document we have ever handled.This archivally framed document is 8 in x 6.5 in and is contained in an a gold archival frame with an engraving image of Hancock.It is a warrant for an appointment as an officer in the Fleet of the United States. What is intriguing is that this must have been a document that was printed just after The Declaration of Independence was signed because the document reads Fleet of the United Colonies but Hancock has crossed out the word Colonies and has overwritten Colonies with the word STATES. It is signed John Hancock, Pres- as President of the Second Continental Congress.Therefore this is a circa 1776 document.The document is in near pristine condition and it is archivally framed with a gold wooden frame and the framing contains an antique engraving image of John Hancock..
