Henry Kissinger (1923-). Kissinger is a German-born American politician, and 1973 Nobel Peace Prize laureate. He served as National Security Advisor and later concurrently as Secretary of State in the Richard Nixon administration. Kissinger emerged unscathed from the Watergate scandal and maintained his powerful position when Gerald Ford became President.
Kissinger will go down in history
as one of the great masters of statecraft in the
traditions
of Casterleigh, Metternich and Tallyrand. He served in innumerable
top positions in the Nixon and Ford administrations including
National Secrity Advisor, Secretary of State and he was awarded
the Nobel Peace Prize in 19 73 when it still meant something
for his work in bringing peace in Vietnam. He crafted the concept
of detente with the Soviets and he was in part responsible
for helping Nixon reopen diplomatic relations with Communist
China.
Kissinger served in difficult an tumultous times and lately he has come under fire from the far left and international human rights groups who have even accused him of war crimes. One of the people leading that charge has been Christopher Hitchens who, when not attacking anyone who believes in God, wrote a book- later to become a documentary- titled The Trial of Henry Kissinger. Hithches is another super bright Brit who emigrated to the U.S. and now makes an occupation telling us how to run our country.
