(1807-1882). Nineteenth
century American poet, noted for Paul Revere's Ride, The Song
of Hiawatha, The Village Blacksmith, and Excelsior.
A Rare Autograph Verse Signed, being a stanza
from one of his noted works, Excelsior, one page, oblong, octavo,
dated March 8, 1871, no place. The stanza reads:
- "The shades of night
were falling fast
- As though an Alpine village
passed
- A youth who bore 'mid snow
and ice
- A banner with the strange
device
- Excelsior!
- Henry W. Longfellow.
- March 8, 1871"

- The piece shows normal aging
and handling, overall in very fine condition. Holograph verses
by Longfellow are very uncommon.
