Memphis Belle

The First B-17 to complete 25 daylight bombing runs over Europe

Historic Printed Photograph Signed

Memphis Belle. This historic plane was involved in the daylight bombing campaign over Germany in World War II. This campaign was one of the most costly in American military history. The Eighth Air Force lost 26,000 men while in the process of dropping over 2 million tons of bombs on Germany.By contrast the United States Marine Corps lost 20,000 men in the entire war. It was a very controversial effort in that very few crews made it through the required 25 missions that constituted an official tour of duty.

Captain Robert Morgan's crew flew 25 combat missions with the 324th Bomb Squadron, all but four in the Memphis Belle.
