Robert Morgan (1918-1980). Morgan was a legendary hero of WW II and was best known as a pilot of the third most celebrated plane (Memphis Belle) of the war. Morgan achieved his fame in part because his plane was abel to complete 25 missions in the 8th Air Force daylight bombing campaign over Europe. All but four of those missions were carried out by Morrgan's crew. Almost no othe crews accomplished that fete withou being shot down , killed or severely wounded.After Morgan completed his European tour he and his crew toured the U.S. selling bonds and then Morgan went to the Pacific where he flew B-29's over Japan.His multiple medals and awards are detailed in the book wich his story as a pilot in WW II.

[10], 389 pages. Hardcover; H 24.25cm x L 15.75cm. Dust jacket presented in a mylar Brodart protecotor. Black spine with vibrant copper stamped lettering, slate gray boards. A nearly pristine copy in unread condition with an intact dust jacket .The book is signed, "In memory of William Wyler, a good man! Robert Morgan. " William Wyler was the famous Hollywood producer who made the documentary Memphis Belle right after the war and his wife co-produced the 1990 film Memphis Belle.

The "Memphis Belle", a Boeing-built B-17F-10-BO, serial 41-24485, was added to the USAAF inventory on July 15, 1942, and delivered in September 1942 to the 91st Bomb Group at Dow Field, Bangor, Maine. It deployed to Prestwick, Scotland, on September 30, 1942, and then to its permanent base at Bassingbourn, England, on October 14. Captain Robert Morgan's crew flew 25 combat missions with the 324th Bomb Squadron, all but four in the Memphis Belle.

The Memphis Belle flew its 25th and last mission with a different crew on May 19, 1943, to Kiel, Germany. It was then flown back to the United States on June 8, 1943 by Morgan's crew for war bond tours.

The plane was named for pilot Robert K. Morgan's sweetheart, Margaret Polk. The famous Petty girl nose art was painted by the 91st's group artist Tony Starcer.
