Sir William Osler (1849-1919). Canadian-born, American and British
physician renowned as teacher, scholar, and medical historian.
An Excessively Rare Photograph Signed, measuring 3 3/4"
x 51/2", matted to the photographer's matte to 8" x
10". This studie portrait by Mesny of Baltimore (blind-stamped
in the lower right corner) handsomely depicting Osler seated
in a Victorian chair faciung the camera. Boldly signed with sentiment:
"Sincerely yours, H.H., Wm Osler". This is the
first signed photograph of its kind that we have ever seen. Considered
the "father of internal medicine," Oslers career
spanned nearly forty-five years at McGill University (1875-84),
the University of Pennsylvania (1884-89), Johns Hopkins University
(1889-1904), and Oxford (1905-1919), where he was knighted in
1911. While at Johns Hopkins he published the classic The
Principles and Practices of Medicine, considered the most
influential textbook on medicine ever published. A wonderful
image. In excellent condition. Housed in a custom frame. $4,950.
