Louis Pasteur (1822-1895). Bacteriologist, Biologist, Chemist, and Pathologist. A Beautiful small letter, approximately 4 in.x 1 in. dated July 13, 1882 and which reads : "My dear child, how can I refuse to satisfy a desire which you express with so much grace? Always keep these feelings of respect and admiration for things of merit--they will bring you happiness, and thay are from henceforth are a good augury for the choice of him who one day you will join to our destiny." The letter is signed L. Pasteur.The small letter is written on a gilt-edged, board with serpintine edges. The letter is archivally framed and the framing's overall dimensions are approximately 26 in. x 22 in.and the framing includes an antique etching of Pasteur as shown. This letter is a reflection of Pasteur's great humanity.Enough said.
Among his many accomplishments, Pasteur discovered the bacterium responsible for anthrax, and developed livestock inoculations for anthrax and chicken cholera. His experiments with bacteria conclusively disproved (1862) the theory of spontaneous generation and led to the germ theory of infection. His work on wine, vinegar, and beer resulted in the development of the process of pasteurization. In 1888 the Pasteur Institute was founded in Paris, with Pasteur as its director, to continue work on rabies and to provide a teaching and research center on virulent and contagious diseases.
