Ronald Reagan (b.1911-2004). Actor, Governor of California, and 40th President of the United States (1981-1989).This offering is a framed pair of fender flags used during the President's trip to Europe in 1985.

In late April and early May President Reagan made a trip to the Bonn economic summit. during this trip the President visited several countries in Europe in addition to Germany including Spain and Portugal. Some of the more significant events on this trip included a wreath laying at the site of the former Bergen-Belsen concentration camp and the controversial visit to the Bitburg Cemetery where it turned out that former members of the SS were buried. Reagan's advisers tried to get him to cancel the Bitburg visit and he said "no" because, as the President said, "I gave my word to Chancellor Kohl that I would go there."Pure Reagan-a man of principal.

The flags measure approximately 14 in. x 24 in. each and the overall framing measures 32 in. x 48 in.The flags are housed in a light brown wooden framed as shown.Note the excess flag to the left of the field of stars that resulted from the need for excess flag to wrap around the fender poles. This is one way to tell these were fender flags: they of course flew on the Presidential limousine. This offering of course represents a unique opportunity to own a presidential artifact traceable to one of our greatest presidents, Ronald Wilson Reagan, 40th President of the United States. Items like this seldom come on the market. It is particularly rare to have a Presidential Flag come up for sale. The last full sized Presidential Flag thatappeared in auction was one of the flags the LBJ gave to each one of the surviving brothers and sisters after the assasination of President Kennedy. The flags will be come with a letter of provenance as to their origin, history and authenticity. The photograph to the upper left shows similar flags being flown on a presidential limousine.
