Norman Rockwell(1894-1978).
American painter and
illustrator. His works enjoy a broad popular appeal in the United
States and elsewhere and Rockwell is most famous for the cover
illustrations of everyday life scenarios he created for The Saturday
Evening Post magazine over more than four decades. Among the
best-known of Rockwell's
works are Rosie the Riveter (although his Rosie was reproduced
less than others of the day-as shown), Saying Grace (1951), and
the Four Freedoms series as well as the four star series.
This little letter has wonderful content in that it illustrates how Rockwell apparently could develop a "picture" or image from his own imagination. History has show that his mind conceived and he executed many images that captured America as we knew it in our childhood.Rockwell started as an illustrator and his works were looked down on by the true artistes for years but it is Rockwell who has endured. This would make a magnificent item to frame with a Rockwell image.
The letter is on octavo sized personal stationery with one transfold in the middle as shown and it is dated November 16, 1943, Arlington Vermont. It is in very good condition as shown except for normal aging and toning. It is signed in blue ink by pen, Norman Rockwell.
