Theodore Roosevelt
President of the United States

Ttped letter Signed by President Roosevelt

Theodore 'Teddy' Roosevelt (1858-1919). 26th President of the United States (1901-1909). One of the great figures in American History. Among his many accomplishments he was the first American and thus also the first President to win the Nobel Prize, he was the first President to leave the country, to appear in the newspaper, and the only president to be awarded The Medal of Honor (post humously). The Roosevelts and the MacArthurs are the only father-son winners of the MOH in our history. TR was noted for his aggressive foreign policy and will long be remembered for his "Speak softly and carry a big stick." One Washington, D.C. wag once allowed that this phrase contrasted with Jimmy Carter's motto "Speak stickly and carry a big soft.
