William Tecumseh Sherman (1820-1891). Legendary Union General and Commander-in-Chief of the Armies of the United States; was an American soldier, businessman, writer, and General for the Union forces in the American Civil War, best known for his capture of Atlanta, Georgia, and his March to the Sea (from Atlanta to Savannah, Georgia).

Autograph Letter Signed, two pages, octavo, on official "Head-Quarters Armies of the United States, Washngton, D.C." letterhead, dated July 15, 1867. In part: "I am cocming to Boston on Sunday and will stop at the Tremont House and spend mosty of the day out at the Grays at Brookline. I must leave next morning for Dartmouth and am sorry can't promise to come to the Arsenal this trip. If you can be at the Tremont in the early part of Sunday I will be glad to see you. Truly your fiorend, W.T. Sherman, Gen'l". In fine conditon. $1,250.00
