Holland M. Smith (1882–1967). American general. Beautiful signature with biographical data on a 3in x 5 in card. np,nd but circa 1940's.
 
b. Seale, Ala. He was commissioned in the marines in 1905 and served in France in World War I. In World War II, Smith pioneered in developing amphibious tactics. He commanded troops in actions in the Gilbert, Marshall, and Mariana islands and at Iwo Jima. Prior to the battle for Iwo Jima he arose from a sick bed, he was a severe diabetic with kidney failure, to lead the Marines in the battle.He commanded the Fleet Marine Force in the Pacific (1944–45) and retired (1946) from the marines as a general. He wrote Coral and Brass (1949).Card shows normal ageing and handeling-otherwise fine.
