- General Holland McTyeire
"Howlin' Mad" Smith, KCB (1882 1967). Holland was a General in the United
States Marine Corps during World War II. He is sometimes called
the "father" of modern U.S. amphibious warfare.
-
- General Smith was responsible
for organizing and training of our amphibious assault forces
that conquered the Pacific theater one island at a time. Some
claim that he was as successful in the Pacific theater as Patton
was in Europe. In fact he led Marines who took more territory
during the course of the war than the troops under Patton did.
One of his last campaigns was the battle for Iwo Jima when Smith
got up from a sick bed to direct the Marine's attack on the island.
-
- Smith was one of our greatest
warriors and signed photographs or any autograph material of
his are extremely scarce. In fact we have never been able to
offer a signed photograph similar to this one with Smith in full
military dress.
-
- This offering is a 8 in x 10
in B&W head and shoulders portrat in uniform of General Smith
that is signed to Dr. G----- kindest regards HM Smith.
General USMC, Ret. in
green ink.Good contrast. Photo in exccellent condition.

letter of authenticity as to its origin, history and authenticity.
