Commander James and Sybil Stockdale. A beautiful lithograph signed by both. Commander Stockdale, is one of the most highly decorated veterans in American history. He was shot down over Vietnam and spent over five years in a Viet Cong prison and was treated with unrelenting barbarity. As if Commander Stockdale's agony wasn't sufficient suffering for him and his his family and friends, the treatment that the families received at the hands of their own country is a National Disgrace. The families could not even get the disreputable Department of State to condemn the treatment our prisoners were receiving at the hands of the Vietcong barbarians. The conduct of these American men have redefined the terms duty, honor and country in our lexicon. The story of the disreputable conduct of our own government is nauseating. But there was one, and only one public official who extended a helping hand to the families and that was, you got it, Ronaldus Maximus-Ronald Wilson Reagan. He even gave Sybil Stockdale his personal phone number so she could call him at any time.He was of course great comfort to all the families. Commander Stockdale and his wife wrote a great book called In Love and War in which they recounted the perspective of the prisioners of war as well as the trial by fire of the families left behind. It is a book well worth reading and unique in the annals of military history. This listing is a 11 in. x 14 in. B&W lithograph by Ortega that is signed in pencil by both James and Sybil Stockdale. It also depicts an image of the plane Commander Stockdale was flying when he was shot down over Vietnam.
