The Formal Surrender of Japan, 2 September 1945. A Rare and Historic Document Signed, being a collection of 10 signatures on a photographic matt signed on the deck of the USS Missouri the morning of the surrender. All 10 signers were participants in the surrender ceremony; 7 of the 12 were signers of the Instrument of Surrender and 3 were senior members of the U.S. delegation. The signers here were: Douglas MacArthur (Allied Commander), Chester Nimitz (USA), Yoshijiro Umezu (Japan), Bruce Fraser (UK), Kuzma Derevyanko (USSR), Jacques LeClerc (FR), Conrad Helfrich (Netherlands); and three members of the U.S. delegation were: Admiral William F. Halsey, Rear Admiral Forrest Sherman, and Lt. General Richard K. Sutherland.
 
On September 2, 1945, at 4 minutes past 9 o'clock, the Japanese representatives signed the official Instrument of Surrender, prepared by the War Department and approved by President Truman. This is the rarest compilation of signatures we've ever handled related to this historic event. A rare and historic document-a one of a kind witness to the end of World War II. Provenance: from the collection of a veteran who was present at the surrender. Matt shows normal aging, overall in very good condition.
