John Hoyer Updike (1932). Updike is an American novelist, poet, and short story writer born in Reading, Pennsylvania. Updike's most famous works are his Rabbit series (Rabbit, Run, Rabbit Redux, Rabbit Is Rich, Rabbit At Rest, and Rabbit, Remembered). Rabbit is Rich and Rabbit at Rest both won Pulitzer Prizes for Updike. Describing his subject as "the American small town, Protestant middle class", Updike is well known for his careful craftsmanship and prolific writing, having published 21 novels and more than a dozen short story collections as well as poetry, literary criticism and children's books. His most recent work is about art-Still Looking. His works often explore sex, faith, death, and their interrelationship. His work has received critical acclaim world wide but he has had his critics among contemporary writers such as Irvine and Wolfe. Nonetheless, Updike is one of our greatest living writers and many feel that it is a travesty that he has not been awarded a Nobel Prize for Literature. That prize theses days seems to be reserved largely no account leftist writers like Pinter whose books or plays " I just cannot pick up once I put then down." This is a First Edition published by Knopf in 1981.It is bound in mustard boards with red top stain. The dust wrapper is pristine. It is signed with best wishes, John Updike.
