Victoria (Alexandrina Victoria; 24 May 1819 22 January 1901) was from 20 June 1837 the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and from 1 May 1876 the first Empress of India of the British Raj until her death. Her reign as the Queen lasted 63 years and seven months, longer than that of any other British monarch before her. The period centered on her reign is known as the Victorian era, a time of industrial, political, and military progress within the United Kingdom. Victoria's reign was marked by a great expansion of the British Empire; during this period it reached its zenith, becoming the foremost global power of the time.
This offering is a Partially printed Document Signed, Victoria RI, one page, 8¼ x 13, with integral leaf attached, Court of St. Jamess, April 24, 1869. The Queen authorizes the commander of Camp Aldershot to convene district and garrison courts martial for the trial of any Soldier belonging to Our Forces . . . who shall be charged with any offence against Military Discipline. The document has a vertical fold that passes through the signature, has minor stains and soiling, and shows general handling wear. It also has three horizontal folds that show some splitting and small tears at the left margin of the front and integral leaf, all of which have been reinforced with tape. The paper and wax seal is intact, and Victoria has signed with a 3¼ signature. Overall the piece is in good to very good condition.
