Kurt Vonnegut (1922-). Vonnegut is a great American literary figure. He has had a storied career from frontline soldier to car dealer to novelist and artist to teacher. In WW II he was an advanced scout in the Battle of the Bulge and he saw Dresden fire-bomed as a POW. It was the latter experience that was the core of one of his most famous works Slaughterhouse Five. Vonnegut was ever the 'outsider', iconoclast and social critic. He was an admirer of Dillinger and and other social outcasts and he was definately left of center in his political beliefs. Nonetheless he was a liteary genius and a multidimensional human being. I had the privelege of listening to him lecture on the structure of the novel and various other subjects-an evening to treasure. This book is one of his famous novels Jailbird and it is signed and inscribed To good ol (name electronicall obscured) Kurt Vonnegut, St. Valentine's Day,1988. The book is a First Edition (1979) and it is in pristine condition with an intact dust jacket. Price: $OLD
