Glenn 'Pop' Warner
Legendary Football Coach
Rare Autograph Letter Signed

Glenn S. 'Pop' Warner (1871-1954). Legendary Football Coach who developed the single and double wing offenses and other plays. He had career wins of 312, the most ever until eclipsed by 'Bear' Bryant. The 'Pop Warner League' is named in his honor. Very Rare Autograph Letter Signed, one page, quarto, 'Temple University Philadelphia' official imprinted letterhead, dated October 8, 1934. A very good football related letter to the Nelson-Willard-McIntyre Game Co. on their new football game. Reads in part:

"…I have had the pleasure of playing your new football game called Signals and can say that it is one of the most interesting indoor football games I have ever seen. What appeals to me is the fact that in your game there is ample opportunity to use strategy and generalshiop of the same nature as in a real gridiron battle. This ganme should appeal to all lovers of football young and old.
      Yours truly,
      Glenn S. Warner".

Warner coached at 7 colleges over 49 years. He brought many innovations to college football, including the spiral punt, the screen play, single- and double-wing formations, the naked reverse, the three-point stance, numbering players' jerseys, and the use of shoulder and thigh pads. But to many Americans, Warner is best remembered for starting the Pop Warner Youth Football League in 1929. A bust portrait has been affixed to the lower right by his signature. Mounted to another sheet, age toning, overall, very good. Exceptionally uncommon piece. $1,950.
