Framed letter signed by Earl Warren

This offering is a archivally framed typed letter letter and image of Warren. The letter which is written on From the Chamber of the Chief Justice and United States Supreme Court Stationery is dated Feb 3, 1954. The letter is written to Basil O'Connor and thanks him for sending Reverend Peter Marshall's Let's Keep Christmas Book and that he enjoyed it.In a poststscript in Warren's hand he writes ---" I hope the Letter signed by Earl Warren about Christmasresponse to the drive for funds was as successful as last year." The letter which is in excellent condition is signed Earl Warren.

This is a fabulous association piece. First, the letter is written in February of 1954 just three months before the Supreme Court handed down the Brown vs The Board of Education ruling that ended school segregation. Second it was written to Basil O'Connor who was a storied figure in many ways in our society of that era. O'connor was a self made Irish Catholic from very humble beginnings who became a law partner of FDR, the co-founder of the Warm Springs Foundation and later the President of The March of Dimes (MOD) and also The Red Cross. In fact the address to which this letter was sent was the headquarters of the MOD (120 Broadway, NYC). The reference that Warren makes to fund raising obviously refers to the annual MOD drive.O'Connor was a legendary fund raiser and was not reluctant to use all of his political connections including Harry Hopkins to strong arm prospective donors into giving large sums of money to his various causes.

The letter is on 5.5 in. x 6.5 in. stationery and the image is only slightly smaller. The overall framing is 13 in. x 17 in.
