Casper Weinberger (1917-2006) . The United States of America lost on of its greatest citizens ever when Casper Weinberger died in Maine of complications of pneumonia in March.. 'Cap' Weinberger as he was known to associates and friends was a patriot who labored tirelessly as Secretary of Defense under Ronald Reagan to restore Americas military after the disastrous Carter administration.Weinberger served a in Defense from 1981 to 1988 making him the second longest serving Secretary of Defense (or War) in history. His book details those seven years and the battles that were fought to revitalize and reequip our military. It is a fascinating story and well worth the read especially considering today's circumstances The story not told in this book is the despicable act of Lawrence Walsh the Special Prosecutor for Iran Contra who brought a conspiracy' indictment against this great man on the eve of the Presidential election. People close to Weinberger are outraged that this happened even to this day. Fortunately President GHW Bush stepped in and pardoned Weinberger and that ended the fiasco. Some of Walsh's staff are unfortunately still active in public life and they turn my stomach every time they appear. This book is in pristine condition with an intact dust jacket. It is signed and inscribed---To--a great American--with best wishes Casper Weinberger. Price: $45.00
